University of South Carolina Medical Brigades Global Brigades USA

University of South Carolina is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. Each community receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are provided access to healthcare and volunteers deliver public health workshops. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. In conjunction with our Medical Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with economic development, sanitation and clean water projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring. San Diego Geo-Tech Academy Global STEM Squads SQUADS ABROAD

San Diego Geo-Tech Academy aims to provide access to clean water in rural under resourced communities through applying STEM skills. Our student volunteers work alongside local engineers to assess, design, and construct infrastructure projects that range from rainwater harvesters that supply drinking water for local schools to large scale community-wide water systems that pipe water directly into households. Each of our student volunteers has a donation goal to help cover logistical expenses while abroad such as transport, local staff, meals, insurance, accommodations, but most important, the year-round follow-up to our project by local staff to ensure the sustainability over time. Water Brigades at Boston University Global Brigades USA

Boston University is a chapter of Global Water Brigades, an international movement of university students working alongside local communities and technicians to implement clean water systems in the developing world. Water systems are designed, planned, and budgeted with partner communities and local leaders are identified by the community to serve as the community’s Water Council, which collects monthly water fees from households to operate and maintain the constructed water system. It then takes several months of construction by volunteers, staff and community members to complete and can include several large scale components, such as dams and storage tanks in order to pipe clean water to individual homes. nnIn conjunction with our Water Program, Global Brigades also supports communities with healthcare, economic development and sanitation projects, and uniquely implements these programs in a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of impact monitoring.
