Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Dental Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Ghana. Dental Brigade volunteers have the opportunity to shadow licensed dentists in urgent and preventive dental services in communities with limited access to healthcare. Dental Brigades also focuses on prevention with dental hygiene workshops. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends. A typical brigade structure includes three clinic days and a Holistic Model Day. This unique day allows for Medical/Dental brigaders to experience one of Honduras’ other programs: Architecture, Business, Engineering, Microfinance, Public Health or Water Brigades. Through these Holistic Model Days, volunteers are able to tackle non-health related issues that are often times the root cause of common illnesses seen on Medical and Dental Brigades. The main health concerns in our communities include diarrhea, respiratory illnesses, waterborne illnesses and abdominal pain.

University of Pittsburgh Empowered Legal Consulting May 2026 Greece Global Brigades USA
Global Brigades offers 7-day Legal Empowerment Brigades throughout the year in Honduras and Panama. Legal Empowerment Brigades primarily work with rural communities that are under-resourced and largely unaware of their own legal rights. Throughout the week, Legal Empowerment Brigades volunteers shadow Honduran lawyers to provide pro-bono legal consulting to rural communities. A free legal clinic provides opportunities for volunteers to not only receive experience with Honduran legal professionals but also experience first-hand the obstacles to justice and the culture of legal misinformation in rural communities. Volunteers also work to provide capacity building and education-based workshops on various legal concepts to empower communities through education. Additionally, volunteers continue shadowing Honduran lawyers while they gather important information to initiate the process of resolving family legal cases, many of which have been stalled in the Honduran legal system through institutional inefficiencies and the prohibitive high costs of legal services. Between brigades, Global Brigades’ in-country staff works to secure legal outcomes and provide follow-up to the community.

Business Brigades volunteers empowers rural communities in Panama without access to financial services and business guidance by providing micro-enterprise counseling, financial planning assistance and strategic investment. During the brigade, volunteers divide into small groups to conduct client visits in which they get to know the client and assess each client’s level of financial competency, entrepreneurial aspirations, and/or business knowledge. Volunteers then provide educational and capacity building assistance in the form of workshops. Topics range from personal finance to basic accounting and business planning.

Global Medical Squad mobilizes students abroad to participate in a medical clinic that will provide primary health care services to under-resourced communities with limited to no access to medical care. During the clinic, students will assist with intake, triage, shadow our physicians, provide education workshops, and help to distribute medicine in the pharmacy. In addition students will help build the capacity of community health workers on chronic illness screening techniques. Included in the program fee is a contribution that makes our medical clinics possible. Medical Squads is a program of Global Brigades, a highly recognized international development organization that uniquely implements a Holistic Model that targets specific UN Sustainable Development goals within partner communities.
