Who is Prince?

Prince Inkoom is a six year old boy from the community of Ekumfi Egyankwa. He is the youngest of 4 in a family of farmers. Prince is mute, can not walk and has not attended any form of school.Global Brigades was introduced to him by the help of a July Intern, Tabitha Baca.

Why are we helping him?
Prince was proposed to have developmental brain damage during an initial assessment but he's not paralyzed because his nerves are intact. Additionally, Prince has had seizures. Prince was brought to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where he had diagnostic tests run. The test results have been received by his family and the next step is to analyze the results at Cape Coast Regional Hospital. Hopefully, the physicians can determine the underlying causes of seizures and provide anti-seizure medication.

What about his family?
Prince’s mother, Mary, works at the community school selling rice and at the moment does not have the financial capabilities to support further transportation, medicine or physician follow up. The initial assessment proposed that rehabilitation may be effective depending on what type of seizure disorder Prince has. However,a follow up at Cape Coast Regional Hospital to analyze the results is necessary.Global Brigades is reaching out to the international community to assist Mary in providing Prince with best available options in health care for him to continue a full life. Stay tuned for updates regarding the budget of the recuperating process.
