!!Tulane University Medical Brigade April 2020 Panama!!
Medical Brigades is to promote sustainable levels of healthcare in underserved communities in Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Ghana. The goal of Global Brigades is to ensure that communities have long-term access to healthcare and health-related resources. This year, I will be going to Panama again to assist medical professionals in a rural community clinic and help people who otherwise have no access to healthcare. I will be working with doctors, pharmacists, dentists, and community workers.

Medical Brigrades
Global Brigades offers 7-9 day Medical Brigades throughout the year in Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. During a Medical Brigade, volunteers have the opportunity to take vitals and patient history in triage, shadow licensed doctors in medical consultations, and assist in a pharmacy under the direction of licensed pharmacists. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade approximately twice a year. Between brigades, our in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) trainings to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare. Electronic patient records are collected for future visitations and to monitor overall community health trends.

Service Trip to Honduras with MSU's Medical and Dental Global Brigades
MSU Medical and Dental Gobal Brigades take a one-week trip to Central America every year. This year we will be traveling to the Honduras. The purpose of this trip is to assist doctors, dentists, and pharmacist provide care and medicine to need-based communities to prevent them from having to walk hours or days to obtain common medical care. I want to be a part of this because the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference.

Global Brigades Public Health UNB
Public Health's mission is to empower rural Honduran communities to prevent common illnesses through in-home infrastructural development, community leader training, and health education. Working side-by-side with community members, volunteers improve the overall infrastructure within the home through the construction of five projects: eco-stoves, latrines, water storage units, showers, and concrete floors. The five projects were chosen based on observations of medical brigade patient records, which illustrated high levels of respiratory, chagas and other preventable diseases caused by poor in-home health infrastructure, as well as student input and observations. Between brigades the in-country team provides follow-up to ensure the maintenance of the structures and work to find funding that will complement the health goals of the community to perpetuate future construction.

Global Brigades offers 7-day Business Brigades throughout the year in Honduras and Panama. Business Brigades volunteers empowers rural communities in Panama without access to financial services and business guidance by providing micro-enterprise counseling, financial planning assistance and strategic investment. During the brigade, volunteers divide into small groups to conduct client visits in which they get to know the client and assess each client’s level of financial competency, entrepreneurial aspirations, and/or business knowledge. Volunteers then provide educational and capacity building assistance in the form of workshops. Topics range from personal finance to basic accounting and business planning.

This year i got the amazing opportunity to be selected to go to Honduras with a bunch of my classmates. We are going to help support the medical needs to children, women, men and anyone who we really can. Please help us out!

GLOBAL BRIGADE- Ghana Medical service trip
Hi everyone! I will be headed to Ghana, which is my first trip as a part of the Global Brigades at St. John's University. As a physician, I truly believe that is important to share in the knowledge and skills to help and assist others especially when they are in need of these medical services that are difficult to come by. Being a part of this organization has inspired me towards a career towards global health as I myself hope to see patients in underprivileged areas in the future. I hope to travel to Ghana and continue my work as part of this organization. Any amount you donate will help, and I truly appreciate the support that you give to me in my path in medicine. Cheers!
