Volunteer Activity Description

Start Date: Feb 18, 2012 12:00 AM
End Date: Feb 25, 2012 12:00 AM

MTA Water Brigade members will spend 7 days in Honduras working side by side with Global Brigades and community members to implement a sustainable water filtration system. This system will help prevent water related illnesses and promote access to sufficient quantity and quality of water for rural Honduran communities.

Volunteers will tour the existing water filtration system and speak with community leaders about the impact insufficient water control has on the community. We will then work side by side with community members digging trenches, threading or laying pipes, connecting houses or clearing the watershed.

Additionally, we will partner with Global Brigades to provide an educational presentation to community members in the local school to promote the importance of proper water use and hygiene practices.

Throughout the week you will be working towards eradicating water-based illnesses in rural communities, ultimately allowing people to live healthier and more productive lives.
