Eleven-year-old Fatima Cristel was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was two months old. This has caused a range of health issues including exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Fatima has needed many transfusions throughout her life and since the start of this year, Fatima has been hospitalized three times (each time for around 21 days). Pueblo Nuevo, where Fatima's family resides, is a holistic community where Global Brigades works with all programs. Fatima's step-mother is an active member of the community bank. In order to seek treatment, Fatima and her father Jorge must endure a five-hour bus ride to the city. Global Brigades will monetarily support Fatima Cristel and her family through this process with transportation and food stipends, and medications or procedures not covered by the Ministry of Health.
